Emergencies:

Food Crisis in Ethiopia

A severe drought in Ethiopia — the nation’s worst in more than 50 years — has left more than 10 million children, women and men without sufficient food. Central and northeastern Ethiopia have been most affected and drought conditions are expected to last for much of 2016. In some areas, more than 75 percent of crop production has been lost. LWR is currently assessing the situation and will be responding to this crisis. You can help.

Crisis in Syria

As the civil war in Syria continues, the number of civilian causalities, internally displaced people (IDP) and refugees continues to grow. According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 13.5 million people are in need of assistance, 6.6 million people are displaced within Syria and 4.6 million have sought refuge in neighboring countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey and Egypt, as well as in several European countries.

Despite recent peace talks, Syrians remain in danger and continue to struggle to meet their basic needs, both in country and as they seek asylum elsewhere.

LWR is responding in coordination with our local partners on the ground and the ACT Alliance. You can help.

Nepal

In April and May, two powerful earthquakes struck Nepal: a magnitude 7.8 quake on April 25 and a 7.3 magnitude on May 12. More than 8 million people have been affected by both earthquakes, with more than 600,000 homes totally destroyed. LWR is working in the rural areas of the quake epicenter, where we already have active projects. In partnership with local organizations on the ground, we have reached affected communities with emergency food, shelter items, water filters, and LWR Quilts and Personal Care Kits. Our planned 2-year response includes shelter rehabilitation, longer-term food assistance and support for livelihood recovery. You can help.
